Cultural Groups

The cultural groups of the University of Piraeus offer the members of the University community the opportunity to pursue their interests and cultivate their talents. They promote volunteerism and active student participation and cover a wide range of activities.

More specifically, the University of Piraeus has the following cultural groups:

Theatre Team

  • The theatrical team of the University of Piraeus started its activity somewhere in 1994. In 2005 the group gets a new formation and stages:
  • Master Poudilla and the Servant of the Eye by M. Brecht (2005)
  • Internal News by M. Mouse (2006)
  • Calderon by P. P. Pasolini (2007)
  • The Witches of Salem by A. Miller (2008)
  • Death Proof by Q. Tarantino adapted by Bambis Loukopoulos (2009)
  • Real or What? (2010)
  • Invitation to a party (2011)
  • The Awakening of Spring, by F. Wedeckind (2012)
  • Dr. Faustus (2013)
  • This is how love dies (2014)
  • Andriakela (2015)
  • Matei Wisniek’s Clown Wanted (2016)
  • Sophocles’ Antigone (2017)

What do we gain through this group, what do we gain through the theatre? A lot… it’s a process through which each of us can feel creative. We overcome shame, insecurities, taboos and we bring out elements of our character that we didn’t know existed, we bring out another self. We become a team, we learn to trust and operate with “we” rather than “I”.

Nowadays, feelings of loneliness, boredom, conventionality, and alienation can be alleviated by this theatrical group and the theatre which is a breath of fresh air for all of us and that is why we put all our love and passion into keeping it alive.

Musical Ensembles

The Music Ensembles of the University of Piraeus were created with the initiative and support of the former professors of the University, Mr. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos and Professor Kornelia Delouka-Iglesi. They were organized and coordinated by the students and graduates of Classical Studies Rafael Arauzo and Stefanos Alexopoulos of the Department of Business Administration.

They are the official Cultural Ambassadors of the University of Piraeus, accompanying events both inside and outside the University. Moreover, they function as a service having a structure, hierarchy and departments for a more efficient and effective presence in all their activities.

Through the MCs, students have the opportunity to learn and transmit musical knowledge with the help of classes that take place in University halls. In this way, student-musician groups are created, called Music Ensembles.

Modern Dance Group

Course Description

Through the course, the person will come into contact with his body and become familiar with most of its potential functions. We will prepare the body so that it can safely enter new movement situations through the application of minimal muscle force and the activation of the basic muscle groups.

Any of us can dance if we are willing and open-minded. Our body is our tool, but our mind and soul are our driving forces. Come roll, crawl, twist, twirl, jump, flip, lean, bend, open, become flexible and elastic, follow rules, break them, improvise and most of all enjoy!!!!

The lessons are based on the release technique. The level will be set by the participants themselves.

Form and a change of clothes are required.

Modern is taught bare feet.

Course Objectives

The formation of artistic consciousness, the introduction of the participants to the art and technique of contemporary dance and the creation of a core of people who, if and when conditions allow, will be able to work on the creation of contemporary dance performances for festivals in Greece.

The contemporary dance classes are taught by Alexandra Kostopoulou.

For information about participation and meetings please contact: alexandra.kostopoulou1993@gmail.com or contact the International and Public Relations department.

Literacy Circle

The Literacy Circle was created by a student initiative in 2017 to bring together students who love books and writing.

Our aim is to create an environment within the university where we can share our love of literature and develop our creativity. We want to learn from each other, be inspired and discover new things – new books, new ideas, new worlds.

If you like to get lost in words or build with them, don’t hesitate to find us.
