Responsibilities of the Network Operations Center

The NOC of the University of Piraeus has the following responsibilities:

  • Management of active and passive data network equipment,
  • Management of the telephone network equipment (interconnection and configuration of telephone exchanges, assignment of numbers and rights according to the Institution’s policy)
  • Design of the optimal topology and structure of the equipment,
  • Implement the Institution’s policy for the protection of the network from unauthorized access, the handling of network security breaches and the ethics of information services,
  • Redesign and upgrading of the University of Piraeus Network, in accordance with technological developments and techno-economic possibilities, in the context of the general policy of the Institution.
  • Managing the connection to the outside world,
  • Technical support for users on issues related to the unified network and data,
  • Development and management of centralised network services,
  • Support for centralised EDPS network services,
  • Provision of synchronous and asynchronous tele-education services,
  • Proposals for upgrading equipment and services for the data network and the telephone network,
  • Compilation and updating of the University of Piraeus telephone directory,
  • Management of the University’s central website,
  • Testing of new products and network architectures,
  • Cooperation and communication with corresponding services of other Academic networks,
  • Participation in research and development projects and with similar groups of Greek and International Academic & Research Institutions,
  • Provision of know-how transfer services in public and private sector information and communication projects,
  • Provision of telematics services to third parties (Research and University Institutions, Public Services and Organizations) in the context of externally funded projects.
