Ο Σπυρίδων Ρουκανάς είναι Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Διεθνών και Ευρωπαϊκών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς στο γνωστικό αντικείμενο της Διεθνούς Πολιτικής Οικονομίας. Eίναι απόφοιτος του Τμήματος Διεθνών Οικονομικών Σχέσεων & Ανάπτυξης του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης (2003). Πραγματοποίησε Μεταπτυχιακές Σπουδές στη Διεθνή Πολιτική Οικονομία (Master of Arts in International Political Economy) στο University of Leeds της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας (2004). Είναι διδάκτορας του Τμήματος Διεθνών Οικονομικών Σχέσεων & Ανάπτυξης του Δημοκριτείου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης (2008). ΕΡΕΥΝΗΤΙΚΑ ΕΝΔΙΑΦΕΡΟΝΤΑ

Στα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα περιλαμβάνονται η μελέτη της ∆ιεθνούς Πολιτικής Οικονοµίας και της οικονομικής ανάπτυξης στις χώρες της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης, της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και στις αναδυόμενες οικονοµίες, καθώς και οι σχέσεις τους µε την ΕΕ. Παράλληλα, μελετά τις επιδράσεις της διεθνούς οικονομικής κρίσης στο σύγχρονο διεθνές οικονομικό περιβάλλον. Επίσης, εξετάζει τη διαμόρφωση του διεθνούς οικονομικού περιβάλλοντος υπό το πρίσμα των αναδυόμενων οικονομιών στην παγκόσμια οικονομία.
